Privacy Policy
This is the short, plain-English version of how The Pilates Index handles your data. The summary: we collect very little, we don't sell anything to anyone, and we don't share email addresses. The rest of this page spells out what specifically happens when you visit, claim a listing, or contact us.
What we collect from you
When you browse the site without claiming or contacting anything, we collect aggregate analytics only — nothing tied to your name, your email, or any identifier you'd recognize. The specific tools we use are listed in the Cookies and analytics section below.
If you claim a listing, we collect your email address, your edits to the listing (description, social links, etc.), and which tier you're on (free or paid). If you subscribe to the paid tier, billing runs through Stripe — we never see or store your card number; Stripe handles that. If you email us at [email protected], we keep that thread so we can respond.
What we do with it
We use analytics to understand which pages people read, what they search for, and where listings might be confusing — that's it. We use the email addresses we collect from claims to send you account-related messages (claim confirmations, paid-tier receipts, occasional product updates relevant to studio owners). We don't share or sell email addresses, and we don't use your data to target ads on other sites.
Cookies and analytics
Three analytics tools currently run on the site:
- Plausible. A privacy-friendly analytics tool that doesn't set cookies and doesn't collect personal data. We use it for page-view counts and a handful of custom events (claim button clicks, search submissions, etc.).
- Microsoft Clarity (project ID
vnoodz8l67). Records anonymized session-replay heatmaps so we can see where layouts confuse people. Clarity may set cookies for session continuity. You can opt out via your browser's do-not-track setting or Clarity's own opt-out flow. - Google Search Console. Tells us which search queries surface our pages. Aggregated and search-traffic only — no per-visitor data.
If you claim a listing, the magic-link login sets a small functional cookie so we know it's still you across the claim flow. That cookie is necessary for the login to work; there's no way to opt out and still log in.
If you claim a listing
When you claim a studio, we store: the email address you used to claim, the edits you submit (description, photos if paid, social links), the tier you're on, and — for paid tiers — a Stripe customer ID and subscription state. We do not store credit card numbers; that data lives with Stripe. If you ever want your account deleted, email [email protected] and we'll remove it.
Removing your studio
If you operate a studio and you'd rather not be in the directory at all, email [email protected] and we'll remove the listing. We don't require justification and we don't argue about it. Removed listings can also be re-added later if you change your mind.
Email and questions
Privacy questions, data requests, "what do you have on me" inquiries — all of it goes to [email protected]. This is a one-person operation; I read every message and respond as quickly as I can.
